Migrate Files to the Machinery Regulation Directly in Cedoc – Here’s How to Get Started
On January 20, 2027, the new Machinery Regulation (EU 2023/1230) will become fully applicable across the European Union. For many companies, this means reviewing existing technical documentation and risk assessments to ensure they meet the new requirements. To make the transition easier, Cedoc includes a dedicated migration feature that allows users to migrate projects from the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC to the Machinery Regulation.
Migrate Existing Files Directly in Cedoc
In Cedoc 4, you can use the “Migrate to EU 2023/1230” feature to transfer an existing project to the new regulatory framework. The function is available both from the Documents menu and next to recently opened files. All previously documented answers and identified risks are preserved in the migrated version of the risk assessment.
Don’t Wait Until January 2027
Although the Machinery Regulation does not become fully applicable until January 20, 2027, we recommend that companies begin adapting their processes today. Starting early makes it easier to identify potential gaps in documentation and risk assessments before the new requirements take effect. Cedoc helps you structure your work efficiently and support compliance with the upcoming regulatory requirements.
Migration Is a Strong First Step Toward Compliance
It is important to remember that migration alone does not automatically mean your documentation complies with the Machinery Regulation. Some questions have been revised, certain requirements have changed, and new sections have been introduced. After migration, the risk assessment should therefore be reviewed, updated, and completed to ensure it reflects the requirements of the new regulation.
New Requirements for Technology, Digitalization, and AI
The Machinery Regulation places greater demands on technical documentation and introduces a stronger focus on digital technologies, automation, and AI-related risks. Companies need to ensure that their risk assessment processes and internal expertise are equipped to address these new requirements. Cedoc 4 is already aligned with the Machinery Regulation, making the transition significantly easier for existing users.
Which Machines Are Covered?
The Machinery Regulation applies to machinery and related products sold or used within the European market. Machines placed on the market after January 20, 2027, or machines that undergo a substantial modification requiring a new risk assessment after that date, will be subject to the new regulation. Machinery already placed into service before this date will remain governed by the Machinery Directive, provided no substantial modification takes place.
Prepare Your Organization Today
To ensure a smooth transition, we recommend that you:
- Identify which machines will be manufactured, purchased, or placed on the market after January 20, 2027.
- Review your current documentation and risk assessment processes.
- Ensure your organization has the expertise needed to address new requirements related to digitalization and AI.
- Begin migrating existing Cedoc files well before the transition date.
With Cedoc’s migration functionality, moving from the Machinery Directive to the Machinery Regulation becomes simpler, faster, and more structured, allowing you to focus on meeting the new requirements and continuing to develop safe, compliant products.
